Beautiful Lake Louise is deservedly popular but climbing up from the lake there are fewer people and almost none past equally lovely Lake Agnes.
More Canada
We travelled to Lake Louise from Moraine Lake where we were staying in the lakeside hotel. The shuttle bus makes it very easy and drops you off right at the lake.
It's a spectacular lake, fabulous snowy mountains reflected in its turquoise waters. There were a lot of tourists at the lakeside. Hiking up to Lake Agnes it was much more peaceful.
It's quite a steep hike but the mountain views are stunning, more beautiful reflections in the lake.
At the tea house Andrew had Masala Chai and I a lemonade before continuing on to Little Beehive. We were among only a few people to make it up to this point.
At the end of the trail the views were spectacular. There is an information board which helps to identify some of the peaks. On such a clear day there were mountain peaks as far as the eye could see.
We had water and snacks with us which we had at the top.
Lake Louise was looking as beautiful as ever when we got back down by a different route. Discovered that the huge monstrosity of a hotel on the lakeshore (which they are in the process of extending) was not open to non-residents so we had to go down the road to Deer Lodge to get a very welcome beer, Canmore Brewing Company IPA at 6%, before taking the shuttle back to Moraine Lake.
